Modern lifestyle with lack of exercise and walking in sleepers or shoes (Avoiding bare feet walk) greatly contribute to the development of various problems. An athletic foot, and the foot of nature peoples can stand all these wear and tear, and this refers to the importance of small muscles of the feet and a well-formed foot arch.
Fashionable shoes with high heels may cause damages to the foot. In a shoe with extreme high heels the person stands on a slope, the toes slide into the pointed tip of the shoe and body's weight rests on the first and fifth metatarsophalangeal joints. Prolonged use of such shoes may bring about serious deformities of the toes and shrinkage of the Achilles tendon which causes problems when walking in regular shoes.
The principal task of the lower limbs is to secure a solid and springy support for the body and to allow large freedom of movement at the same time.
With our modern lifestyle we are killing our shock absorption, our first contact mechanism on the ground and making us more vulnerable to not only ankle pain but also making us more vulnerable to knee, hip, back & neck pain.
In simple words we are just neglecting the importance of a good posture & our feet, principal determinant of our musculoskeletal pain. It's right time to maintain a fine balance between modern lifestyle & our surroundings so that we can live a healthy & active life without depending much on medicines and unwanted surgical interventions.
Intrinsic muscle weakness and subsequent overpronation is not only troubling our ankle, but it may also cause its damaging effects on Knee, hip, back & neck also. It should be identified and corrected early to prevent ourselves from its negative effects on other joints and soft tissues.
